Injury Woes for India: Deepak Chahar Set to Miss Last Two ODIs Against South Africa
In Short:
– Deepak Chahar likely to miss last two ODIs against South Africa due to injury
– Chahar, a standby player for T20 World Cup, has a stiff back and moved to NCA in Bengaluru
– Chahar and Mohammed Shami to fly to Australia on October 16
In the recent India vs. South Africa ODI series, India faces another setback as pacer Deepak Chahar is set to miss the last two ODIs due to injury. Chahar, who was also named as a standby player for the upcoming T20 World Cup, has been dealing with a stiff back, prompting him to seek treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
As India faced South Africa in the first ODI, a new-look team led by Shikhar Dhawan found themselves on the losing side, falling short by just nine runs in a thrilling encounter in Lucknow. Despite Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller’s impressive unbeaten knocks of 74 and 75 respectively, South Africa managed to post a competitive total of 249/4.
In response, India’s innings suffered an early setback with openers Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan departing cheaply. Although the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson fought valiantly to keep India’s hopes alive, the team fell short in the end after Iyer’s dismissal at 50, and Samson’s heroic unbeaten 86 could not secure victory.
As India prepares to face South Africa in the remaining ODIs, the absence of Deepak Chahar will undoubtedly be felt. However, it has been reported that Chahar, along with Mohammed Shami, is expected to join the team for the T20 World Cup in Australia, flying out on October 16. The Indian team will now have to regroup and find a suitable replacement to bolster their bowling attack for the remaining matches against South Africa.
